Beginnings

Ok. So I am a lot new at this whole blogging thing...but I though it would be cool and easier for all to see what adventures I'm on. Right now especially since I am in the Dominican Republic and can easily post pictures and stories of what's going on down here in this amazing crazy country!

First off I arrived on Sunday June 21st at the airport I first landed at as a missionary 3 years ago. It is also in my first area so it brought back tons of memories! Since then I haven't spoken much English at all. I have been helping a lady set up a rigorous summer program for 8th graders here in an area near the capital, Santo Domingo. I have been spending all my time with her and a professor from Masachusetts. The three of us only speak Spanish to one another even though we all now live in US. Its been great for my Spanish skills, seeing as how they were pretty rusty when I first arrived, and now it is hard to switch to write this in English! haha.

It has been fun being back in the capital where we pass many places that are familiar to me! Yesterday for example we went to a part of Santo Domingo that has many old colonial buildings from when the city was first established by Christopher Columbus. This area I have been to many times as a missionary. Funny story...when walking along this one "street" called the Conde where there are many shops for tourists on both sides of a cobble stone street that cars no longer use, we entered this one shop of little Dominican gifts. This shop is owned my members and they had always given us pretty good deals on items. Well one of the girls who works there, only after being in the shop a few minutes asked if I was once a missionary there. She recognized my face!! I haven't been there for almost 2 years! It made me smile. It's nice to be remembered!

Each day we have been working at the school where this educational program will be. The school is actually owned by Nuns, so its been fun to get to know them! There is one especially who is way cute and we were pretty much instant friends! The only sad part is that the school is completely closed off to the town and I am itching to go outside and walk through the town to see the people and hear the music blaring! I have just been kept so busy! Don't get me wrong, I like being busy, but I'm really hoping that in the next day or two I get to go outside and be with the people! I really only have 2 days left in the capital anyway since I leave for the north and the camp I will be working at for the next 5 weeks on Saturday!

I really hope this isn't just a bunch of rambling...Its kinda nice writting it all down. I will try and keep it updated throughout this DR trip as well as during the daily adventures of my oh so exciting life! haha. Be ready for pictures!
Peace
